The extreme wreck expedition is a serious day on the water. We leave Racer Marina at 07:00, head down the river and run about two hours offshore to the wrecks. By the time you drop your first jig, the coastline is long out of sight.
The heavy setups are rigged for grouper and the bigger snappers: slow jigs in the 200 to 300 gram range, plus live bait when we have it. Lighter rods stay on board for surface action between drifts.
Realistic expectations matter. Wreck fishing is feast or famine. Some days you boat a 20 kilo grouper in the first hour. Other days you work the mark hard and come home with two or three good fish. Either way you have fished water most visitors never see.
